Beth Rodgers Coulter, WCU's An Adventure of the American Mind
Director and Assistant Professor of Education, is a
graduate of Western Carolina University with an Ed. D.
in Educational Leadership. Her background includes teaching
at the university level and 16 years of community college
experience and over 5 years of university experience with

Nell
Knight, Project Assistant also serves as assistant
for the PT3 Project. She attended Georgia State University
and worked as a case manager to the Chief Judge of Fulton
Superior Court, Atlanta, GA. Prior to joining the AAM Project,
she worked part-time as Office Assistant to Dr. Myron Coulter,
Chancellor Emeritus of WCU.

Dr.
Benjamin M. Coulter, Director of Instructional Technology
for the College of Education and Allied Professions and
Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership
and Foundations, completed his Ed.D. in Adult and Community
College Education from North Carolina State University.
His background includes 10 years experience in the field
of Instructional Technology, teaching graduate-level courses
in Instructional Design and Two-Year College Curriculum
Development and program development of the WCU Teacher
Education Technology Initiative. He also worked for 2 years
at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching
as a Program Coordinator and has retired from the United
States Army as a Major in Military Intelligence.

Dr.
Tyler Blethen is Creighton Sossomon Professor of History
and director of the Mountain Heritage Center at Western
Carolina University. He teaches Appalachian history, specializing
in the Scotch-Irish migration to the region and the pioneer
settlement period before the Civil War. He has written
several books and numerous articles on those topics and
is active in history and museum organizations in the region.
He helped the Center develop its permanent exhibition on
the Scotch-Irish settlement of western North Carolina,
which is designed for eighth-grade classes, and he has
worked with teachers on various projects to develop supplemental
curriculum materials, including print, audio-visual, and
