Cherokee Family Histories:
A Cherokee High School Student Project

by Beverly Reavis
Cherokee High School
Cherokee, NC

This unit plan introduces students to digital still cameras and video cameras, image editing, and web page design.  It is also designed to introduce students to personal histories.  Students will record personal histories from elders in the community and preserve them in digital form.  As a culminating activity, students will invite the elders and other family members to a multimedia presentation of the histories.  Each elder will be presented with a copy of the presentation on a CD which the student will burn.

This is a photograph of the ramp leading up to the second floor of Cherokee High School.  This mural was  painted by several CHS art students during the 2000-2001 school year.  The background design was created by a local basketmaker.
